A Denver, Colorado, USA couple was heartbroken when they discovered the cruel past of their adopted cat , Hari, who they had lived with for eight years. At first, they thought his pet’s symptoms were just signs of old age. But were shocked when they saw the results of an X-ray.
“Chelsea” told Newsweek magazine that Hari was rescued from an animal shelter by her husband in September 2017, several years before the two started dating. Little was known about Hari at the time, and all they knew was that when she was found, she was “pretty small and skinny.” Hari is believed to be around 10 years old.

“The symptoms were mainly on his right front leg. At first, we thought it was a sprain, so we gave him painkillers. But after a week, the symptoms didn’t get any better. So we thought it was because of his age,” Chelsea eventually took Hari to the vet to be sure. But she wasn’t prepared for the heartbreaking X-ray results.
“At first Hari had an X-ray of his leg and the vet thought maybe he had a fracture or a bone growth there. But they weren’t sure and wanted to do more X-rays… When they did, they found two BB bullets, one in his right hind leg and one in his chest .”
“The CT scan also found that the reason. He was limping on his right front leg was because his right front leg was shorter than his left leg. Which was caused by an old fracture on his right leg that had not healed yet. There was also a fracture on his back leg that had been there since before he was adopted.”
After learning about this, Chelsea was asked if she knew about the details of Hari’s past. But she started crying because she had no idea what her beloved cat had been through up until then. And it was heartbreaking to think that he had to suffer such pain.
“I cried all the way home,” Chelsea said. “I was so upset because Hari was such a sweet cat. He was gentle and friendly. I don’t know how anyone could hurt another living being like that. He was probably under two years old when it happened. Why would someone want to shoot a kitten?”
Hari is currently receiving painkillers to help support his knees and spine, and Chelsea is considering sending him for physical therapy. They are also doing everything they can to make him comfortable at home, with a heated bed, a sunny outdoor play area, and cat steps to help Hari climb onto furniture.
